Day 01: Arrival in Bhutan, (Paro – Thimphu)

Fly to Paro with Druk Air, Royal Bhutan Airlines or Bhutan Airlines. You will be welcomed and received at the airport by our representative who will also be your tour guide for your stay in Bhutan

Drive to Thimphu (Capital city) and check into your hotel then sightseeing options for the remainder of the day.

  • Takin Preserve Center: which houses the national animal takin. This is an extremely rare member of the goat family. Found in herds in the very high altitudes (13,125ft and over).
  • Centenary Farmers’ market: (if your tour coincides with market days) where farmers would be selling their wide range of farm products. Free interaction with people from town as well as from villages come to this weekend market. The weekend market is from Thursday to Sunday (4 days).
  • Tashichhoedzong: a fortress of the glorious religion built in the 17th century. It houses the throne room and the office of the Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty the King of Bhutan, the central monk body, and various government offices.
  • Buddha Point: The massive bronze statue of Buddha standing 51.5 meters, making it one of the tallest Buddha statues in the world.
  • Craft Bazaar where craftsmen and artisans from across the country display and sell their handicrafts

In the evening stroll around town and feel free to mingle with the locals, or do some shopping at the handicraft stores or visit pubs.

Day 02: Thimphu

Day hike to Dodeydra monastery visit the monastic school and enjoy the picturesque view of Thimphu valley with a picnic lunch on the mountain.

Day 03: Thimphu– Punakha & Wangduephodrang

Travel to Punakha through Dochula Pass (3,088m/10,130ft) from where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountain ranges. Then pass by the beautiful 108 stupas.

Chhimi Lhakhang (Temple of the Divine madman): famous for its fertility shrine, where one can receive the boon of fertility.

Punakha Dzong: located on the island of the Pho Chu (Male River) and the Mo chu (Female River). The fortress was built in the 17th century to serve as the religious and administrative seat of the region. Visit the Kuenray, the Coronation Hall of the kings of Bhutan.

In the evening visit local markets in Punakha.

Day 04: Punakha-Trongsa-Bumthang

Drive to Bumthang via Trongsa

Trongsa dzong: The main administration center during the second kings’ reign and it is also known for its masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture.

Tadzong: The watch tower for the Trongsa Dzong in the olden times but now turned into a historical museum.

Day 05: Bumthang spiritual heartland of Bhutan

A day for a temple run

Kurjey Lhakhang: Which houses a rock that shows Guru Rinpoche’s body imprint after he subdued the powerful Shelging Karpo demon.

Jambay Lhakhang: One of the two temples built in Bhutan in the 7th century by a Tibetan king.

Kenchosum Lhakhang: It is a rural looking temple which has its roots in the 7th century. The temple has three small Buddha statues representing the past, present and the future are believed to have flown there, hence the name Kencho meaning divine and Sum meaning three.Legend has it that when the bell inside is rung, it can be heard as far away as Lhasa in Tibet

Day 06: Bumthang

Febela hike: A nature hike form Bumthang chamkar valley to Tang

Ogyencholing Palace museum: it provides an excellent insight into the lifestyles and living conditions of a typical landed family over the last century.

Membartsho: It is considered one of the most sacred sites in the region as it is related to the renowned religious treasurer (Terton) Terton Pema Lingpa. Pema Lingpa is considered an incarnated disciple of Padmasambhava who discovered treasure within the lake in late 15th century.

Drive back to Chamkar and overnight in Bumthang

Day 07: Bumthang – Phobjikha Valley

Phobjikha Valley. Known as the winter home of the black-necked cranes (Grus Nigricollis), you can see hundreds of these elegant, shy birds that migrate here from Tibet between November and March.

Gangtey Goemba is a 17th-century monastery that sits on a hill, overlooking the entire valley. An excellent example of Tibetan architecture, the prayer hall features eight great decorated pillars.

Day 08: Phobjikha – Paro

Drive back to Paro from Phobjika

Paro Dzong is the fortress that houses the governor’s office and the district administration offices along with the Monk body. Built in the 17th Century, the fortress is a fine example of Bhutanese historic architecture. From the dzong, walk further down to Nyamai Zampa, the oldest traditional cantilever bridge in Bhutan.

Day 09: Explore Paro Valley

Embark on a village walk, explore Heritage homes, and mingle with villagers to learn about farm life in Bhutan.

National Museum, housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower). Here an intriguing collection of artifacts provides a wonderful introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom.

In the evening stroll around town and feel free to mingle with the locals or visit local handicraft stores.

Day 10: A Day Hike to Paro Taktsang Goempa (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)

You will embark on a day hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’. The climb up to the viewpoint will take around 1 ½ hours and from there you will enjoy a spectacular view of the monastery clinging to the side of the cliff. You can either stop for refreshment at the View Point Cafeteria or walk further up to the monastery which will take about 1 hour. The overall hike up to the monastery and down, including breaks, would be around 5 hours.

On the way, visit Kichu temple, one of the 108 temples built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songsten Gyembo.

In the evening relax with a hot-stone bath or a massage and overnight at a hotel in Paro.

Day 11: Departure from Paro

Your tour guide will escort you to the airport according to your flight schedule for your onward destinations.
